Swing Gate: %Control of the Swing Gate


To control the LOGO!MAT Swing Gate please use the following recommendations:
  1. The arriving pallet must be stopped by a LOGO!MAT Stop Unit in front of the Swing Gate.
  2. With the request to open the gate, the drive motor of the pivoting conveyor track must be shut down if no pallet is in transit anymore. The Stop Unit, in front of the gate must not be released as long as the opening signal stays.
  3. The locking mechanism gets pneumatically unlocked. The Swing Gate can be opened now.
    For this operation, a pallet must not be on the pivoting conveyor track!
  4. As soon as the gate is sensed to be open, the shot pin should be extended again.
  5. As soon as the gate gets sensed to be closed and the shot pin is sensed to be extended, the track can be opened for the traffic again. The Shot pin gets lowered by the gate and jumps into the index bushing with its spring tension.
The operational sequence descriptions are only a recommendation and do not address all control processes. All project related operations have to be done by the operating company on-site.

Swing Gate: %Electrical Installation


Electrically, there is one sensor installed into the provided bracket to sensor the closed position of the gate. Adjust the correct switching distance to the locking device so that the sensor loses his signal as soon as the gate gets moved. The wires have to be protected against chafing and secured against unintentional removal. Please pay attention to the correct switching distance and sensor size. The controls of the sensors and the used logic can influence the function and the entire performance of the Swing Gate dramatically. This is the responsibility of the operating company.

Swing Gate: %Adjustments of the Swing Gate


The Swing Gate is adjusted, tested and optimized for the delivered configuration. Settings of the distances to the Swing Gate and the pre tension of the tube support have to be adjusted at the operating company, if necessary.
 
The following Figure shows the different adjustment possibilities of the tubing, to keep the Swing Gate horizontal. By lengthening or shortening the tubes it is possible to raise or lower the pivoting conveyor segment. By extending the lower support tube, the gate gets raised. By shortening the support tube, the gate gets lowered. The changes can be done by moving the tubes within the tube clamps. To pre-tension the gate, lift assistance is necessary.

Adjusting the height and the pre tension of the pivoting conveyor can influence the locking device.

Swing Gate: %Mechanical Installation


The Swing Gate can only be installed in the designated location within the conveyor layout (see the project layout).
 
To install the Swing Gate, please proceed as follows:
  1. Disconnect the electrical and pneumatic supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
  2. Set up the adjoining conveyor tracks to the Swing Gate according to the project conveyor layout.
    The set up and installation has to be done according to the "Set up and Installation“ section of the conveyor documentation package. This document, included in the entire project documentation, describes the different steps in detail, how to set up, arrange and install the conveyor.
  3. Set up the Swing Gate at the assigned location, as shown in Figure 2. Pay attention to the necessary gaps between the gate and the adjoining conveyors. The distances should be 57 mm between the aluminum extrusion of the feeding conveyor and the pivoting conveyor, and 114 mm between the pivoting conveyor and the out-feed conveyor section.

  4. Level and adjust the height / the top of roller of the Swing Gate to the same level as the rest of the conveyor system.
  5. Mount the feeding conveyor segment with the spacer strips to the base frame of the Swing Gate.

  6. Align the out-feed conveyor segment so that the locking mechanism and the opening / closing of the Swing Gate is working smooth and trouble-free.
    The position of the locking mechanism on the Swing Gate is clearly defined. The correct position is given if the shot pin is engaged in the index bushing and the Swing Gate is located in the mechanical end position (simultaneously).

  7. Anchor the Swing Gate frame to the floor. (Please see more information in the Documentation „Set up and Installation“.)
  8. Check the mechanical function of the Swing Gate and adjust the pre tension of the support tubes according to the documentation that the gate operates properly.
  9. Reconnect the electrical and pneumatic supply of the system.
Even if the conveyor system gets set up and installed temporarily, the entire set up and all alignments have to be done correctly to ensure a proper function.
 
The Swing Gate shouldn’t be opened if a pallet is in transition from the feeding conveyor section to the pivoting conveyor track or further to the next adjoining conveyor section.
 
It is forbidden to have a pallet on the Swing Gate conveyor track when it is opened!
 
The use of a LOGO!MAT Stop Unit on the pivoting conveyor segment of the Swing Gate is not recommended because the weight of the gate will increase. There is also a risk that a pallet is stopped on the gate even though the gate should become opened.

Lift Gate: %Changing of the bridge handles


The bridge handles can be relocated along the extrusion, to adjust and to allow an economic work position. Additional handles can be ordered and installed to offer different handle positions for certain operators.
 
To change the bridge handles, please proceed as follows:
  1. Lock the Lift Gate in closed position and make sure that no pallet is conveying through the area.
  2. Remove the mounting bolts and the handle.
  3. Install the new handle in reverse order and adjust to the correct position. Make sure that the bolts are tightened; otherwise the handle can move during operation.
Damaged or broken handles have to be replaced as soon as possible, to avoid injuries.

Broken or worn plain bearings in the locking mechanism have to be replaced as soon as possible to avoid further damages and to guarantee safe and proper function of the Lift Gate.  
 
Pay attention that the plain bearings are not damaged while changing, otherwise the free movement of the shafts can be influenced. Remove the locking mechanism from the Lift Gate while working on it to provide better and safer access.
 
The Lift Gate cannot be used if the locking mechanism is removed. The gate has to stay secured against closing.

Lift Gate: %Changing the spring package


Be aware that there is always tension remaining in the spring package that can’t be taken out before removing the spring package. The package has to be secured before it gets removed or taken apart. 
 
To change the spring package, please proceed as follows:
  1. Disconnect the electrical and pneumatic supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
  2. Open the Lift Gate completely so that the spring of the spring package is extended.
  3. Secure the Lift Gate against closing in the open position (using the safety cables) before the spring package gets loosen or taken out.

  4. Remove the upper and lower retaining nut of the spring package. (The spring package is held in the Lift Gate only by the spring force.)
  5. Release the spring package by loosening the second lower nut. Compress the spring package manually until the upper threaded rod can be removed out of the upper pivot shaft.
    Pay attention to the remaining force of the spring package.
  6. After removing the spring package, it can be disassembled to change a spring or the protective tubes. During reassembly you have to make sure that the package is moving freely and the spring spacers are positioned correctly.

  7. To re-install the spring package, please proceed in reverse order. Pay attention to the different adjustment options, as described in chapter "Mechanical Installation" of the documentation.

Lift Gate: %Pneumatic Installation


If the pneumatic locking option has been ordered with the Lift Gate, a pneumatic cylinder that blocks the gate is installed on the stationary locking plate. This cylinder should be unlocked by a manual signal or a pneumatic switch, activated by an operator. The cylinder must be retracted until the Lift Gate is closed, otherwise the gate cannot be closed completely and it will hit 9as well as wear out) the pin.
